Halloween

So Halloween isn´t really celebrated in the D.R. However, since Dominican culture is greatly influenced by American culture, this little U.S. holiday is gaining more and more popularity. That doesn´t mean that you´ll see anybody trick-or-treating or carving pumpkins, and Dominicans still haven´t quite caught onto the whole costume thing yet, but none of these things are unheard of.
In an attempt to alleviate our home sickness for a true Halloween, a few of the teachers decided to get together and dress up for the night.
Having been inspired by my previous butterfly post, I decided to make myself a pair of wings. I have to say I was pretty proud of them. Its amazing what you can do with 7 dollars and an afternoon of boredom. Really though, everyone´s costumes turned out awesome. Being resourceful is the name of the game here, and everyone did a great job! Just take a look for yourself.

(This was my favorite! Ok so I may be a little biased because I helped paint it, but all credit has to go to Maddy for such an awesome idea!)

And where would Batman and Bat Woman be without Cat Woman!

The goddess. And possibly the cutest Belgian couple ever.

Hola! My name is Molly and I was recently hired through the travel abroad company CIEE as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for the PUCMM, a university located in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Hopefully this blog will give future travelers an insight into teaching abroad, while also helping me log my adventures and stay in touch with friends back home.
